When our client acquired this semi-basement garden flat in a Conservation Area in Richmond, it was a one bedroom dilapidated flat with no central space, or decent access to the garden to the rear.
Studio : MASS designed a rear extension and fully reconfigured the flat to create, not only an open plan living, kitchen & dining space with direct access to the garden, but also an additional bedroom.
This not only gave the client the space they need but also gave the property a massive uplift in value.
The flat benefited from a relatively large garden, however the level was significantly raised, limiting it's use. We helped unlock the potential of this space by creating a level terrace adjacent to the extension and a raised higher tiers towards the rear.
The bi-folding doors of the extension could open up fully and welcome this terrace into part of the living space on those sunny days.
The garden was also long enough that we could fit in a garden annex at the end, providing a guest suite, or for more recent times a perfect work from home space.
